Bad news for Otaki

warning: date() [function.date]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'Pacific/Auckland' for 'NZDT/13.0/DST' instead in /home/annchap/public_html/sites/all/themes/zeropoint/page.tpl.php on line 184.

This week Otaki learnt that the school attached to the Otaki Health Camp was to close. The school had a mere 4 weeks to 'consult'.

Is it the schools job to get feedback for the Minister of Education to her proposals or is it her job to reasonably assess the function, value and need of the school.

The  school is a critical part of the health camp. Without one the other will fail. The Minister suggests alternative providers. Who and where is uncertain.

It is not reasonable to put disadvantaged kids here at the health camp for 2 or 3 weeks in an Otaki school. The disruption for both groups would be untenable.

Theses kids are here because they have high needs and part of that is getting them supported in an educational environment. That will not happen if they are farmed out to the nearest primary school who may be ill equiped to handle these kids who have just been dealt another trauma by the Minister.
