Mischievous misinformation is how I would describe the latest advertisement from 'One Kapiti', the Turver ticket. That's kinder than saying it is ignorant.

The advertisment claims huge increases in rates over the next years as councillors spendup on their wishlist. Wrong.

The Long Term Community Plan is just that. A community plan which takes note of the community's wishes. It is what the community has identified, not council, not councillors.

That is the advertisements first piece of misinformation. The LTCCP is a public document submitted on by the community. I note that none of the candidates under the ticket of 'One Kapiti' were part of that process.

The second piece of misinformation is to imply that the plan is set in concrete. It is not. It is pruned back to affordable levels every year when the Annual Plan is debated. The LTCCP is a blueprint for the future, a list of what the community sees is needed for future planning, as and when it can be afforded. Every year we adjust it to lower the rates.

The third piece of misinformation is to ignore two facts. The recently sabotaged Western Link, currently in the LTCCP, will now not be there. The Aquatic Centre is to be built in two stages, not one thereby saving loan fees, both of which were identified in the LTCCP. Next Annual Plan those adjustments will be made.

Its a worry when a group of candidates either does not understand that the LTCCP is a living document subject to affordability changes annually or that is does and is deliberately scaremongering.

Either scenario is scary. Lack of understanding or deliberate scaremongering? You choose.
