A rainy day in Otaki today to contemplate one's parents lives during the war. How did they survive such horror?
I have mixed views on the increasing popularity of ANZAC Day.
I wonder if it is a celebration of war? I have a great distaste for that.
Is it rememberance of men and women lost? That is great. I do remember my parents on this day. My father in the NZ Army on active service in the Middle East, Greece and Crete. And my mother as a nursing sister with the RAF in the Middle East.
Is it increasing nationalism? That I worry about. There has been much horror done throughout history in the name of nationalism. And even today people are murdered in its name.
Let us remeber ANZAC Day as a celebration of freedom.
